Client: Prince William County, VA
The Prince William Parkway Interchange at Realigned Balls Ford Road included the design and construction of a new four-lane divided roadway with bridge crossings over the Norfolk Southern Railroad and a diverging diamond interchange. The design and construction of this roadway and interchange bring numerous benefits to the community, including enhanced safety, improved traffic flow, environmental benefits, and overall improved quality of life.
ATCS provided construction management, engineering and inspection services, keeping the project on schedule and on budget despite multiple construction challenges. The project was a locally administered project and ATCS was selected to provide this experience to assist the county.
Community Impact
The new roadway and interchange impacted residents and the surrounding community by significantly improving traffic flow and safety through the construction of a four-lane divided roadway and a diverging diamond interchange. This infrastructure upgrade reduced commute stress, allowing residents more time for family, leisure, and community activities. The smoother traffic flow decreased vehicle idling times, leading to reduced emissions and better air quality, thus benefiting public health and contributing to a cleaner environment. Additionally, the innovative design of the diverging diamond interchange enhanced safety by minimizing left-hand turns across oncoming traffic, lowering the likelihood of accidents for all road users.
