ATCS Proud to Support Award-Winning Regional Business Recovery Project

HERNDON, VA – ATCS is excited to announce that its collaboration with Avid Core in conducting a regional business recovery project was awarded Recovery Program of the Year at the 2024 Virginia Emergency Management Symposium in Newport News, Virginia.

In 2023, ATCS’ Emergency Management Services (EMS) staff collaborated with contract prime Avid Core to conduct a regional business recovery project. This project was funded through a State Homeland Security Grant administered by PlanRVA on behalf of the Emergency Management Alliance of Central Virginia to bolster community resilience in the face of emergencies and disasters.

The Recovery Program of the Year award recognizes a program focused on restoring affected communities to their previous states. The award recipient has worked with partners to develop or activate plans, secure funding, provide community assistance, or complete other activities that support recovery excellence in the private, public, or non-profit sectors.

“As a leader in emergency management, ATCS understands the critical importance of fostering community resilience during times of crisis,” said Kwong Hui, vice president of Emergency Management programs at ATCS. “We are honored that our partnership with Avid Core resulted in an effective regional business recovery program. This collaborative effort reaffirms our commitment to delivering solutions that empower communities to thrive in the face of adversity.”

As a subcontractor on this project, ATCS’ EMS team played a key role in developing and implementing crucial components of the initiative. The project’s first phase involved organizing a business recovery session for an RVA Chamber of Commerce event in the fall of 2023. Avid Core facilitated the session, while ATCS arranged the participation of the U.S. Small Business Administration Recovery Director to engage local business owners on recovery planning considerations. In the next phase, ATCS developed an EMACV Business Recovery Toolkit for use in local engagements with business owners and partners. This toolkit includes a PowerPoint slide deck, facilitator guide, and various tools and templates such as a business disruption tactics and resources worksheet, business resilience self-exam, and key business recovery actions checklist. Simultaneously, Avid Core developed the Business Recovery Engagement Guide, a framework for developing a locality-specific business community engagement plan. This guide provides information on incorporating and utilizing resources in the EMACV Business Recovery Toolkit to support business engagement efforts. These resources empower emergency management professionals to effectively engage with the business community, delivering critical information and support tailored to their needs.

The Emergency Management Alliance of Central Virginia is a coalition of government and key stakeholder organizations that collaborate on best practices for emergency preparation, response, relief, recovery, and mitigation in Central Virginia. The Alliance ensures our region has support during major emergencies and disasters.

PlanRVA comprises elected officials and citizens of nine localities who address mutual challenges and develop solutions across the Region.
