Join ATCS in Celebrating National Public Works Week as We Spotlight the Lakeside Drive Bridge Project
Join us in celebrating National Public Works Week hosted by the American Public Works Association (APWA) as we spotlight the Lakeside Drive Bridge project over Blackwater Creek in the City of Lynchburg, VA which was selected as a winner for the 2024 APWA Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Project of the Year Award for the category of Transportation $5 – $25 Million.
ATCS is honored to have been part of the resilient team that successfully delivered this award-winning public works project from concept to completion.
The Lakeside Drive Bridge over Blackwater Creek greatly advanced quality of life for all in the City of Lynchburg, VA through much needed safety improvements and long-term traffic solutions to reduce congestion at the intersection between Lakeside Drive and Old Forest Road. The overall design of the project also included full pedestrian facilities (sidewalks, crosswalks, and shared use paths) that were previously inadequate and outdated as well as enhanced street lighting for safety. These safety improvements have had a tremendous impact on the surrounding community and will continue to provide safe travel options through the City of Lynchburg, VA, especially for students and staff at the nearby University of Lynchburg who use these routes daily.
ATCS served as the Owner’s Representative on the project providing survey, environmental assessment, development of procurement documents, conceptual design, plan reviews, construction oversite, and quality / independent assurance.
Throughout the project the City worked closely with University of Lynchburg personnel to coordinate work on and near their campus and to coordinate all traffic pattern alternations affecting University traffic access.
