Spotlight on Desalegn Gemechu: A 2024 VTCA Scholarship Recipient

The Virginia Transportation Construction Alliance (VTCA) has recently announced the recipients of its 2024 scholarships, and among them is Desalegn Gemechu, a standout Construction Manager at ATCS and current student at Old Dominion University (ODU). Desalegn is currently pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering Technology and brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his studies and career in the transportation industry.

With over 18 years of experience in the transportation industry, Desalegn has significantly impacted the field through his work on various Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) projects across Fredericksburg, Northern Virginia, and the Hampton Roads area.

“Desalegn Gemechu is an exceptional leader whose dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence make him an invaluable asset to the transportation industry,” said Jason Kacamburas, Vice President and Herndon Operations Manager at ATCS. “His pursuit of continuous learning and passion for his work are truly inspiring.”

Desalegn recently earned his Certified Construction Manager (CCM) designation from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) which is a tremendous example of his dedication to the industry.

Desalegn’s achievements and dedication serve as an inspiration to his peers and the broader community. The VTCA Scholarship will provide him with valuable support as he continues to make significant contributions to the transportation industry and pursue his vision of a safer and more efficient infrastructure for all.
