Client: Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT)

The $10M project in the VDOT Fredericksburg District included the installation of a variable speed limit (VSL) system on I-95 northbound between mile markers 115 and 130. The variable speed limits were installed to enhance safety by gradually slowing traffic as it approaches congestion. ATCS worked with VDOT to develop an accelerated project schedule of 11 months, from design to implementation.  The construction elements included radar vehicle detection systems, VSL signs, CCTV cameras, and utilities design including wireless and fiber optic communications, as well as ground and solar electrical services.
