ATCS Wins CMAA NCC Project Award for Excellence in Infrastructure Management

HERNDON, Va. – ATCS is proud to announce that we have been selected as the recipient of the Construction Management Association of America National Capital Chapter (CMAA NCC) Project Award in the Infrastructure category for projects valued between $50 million and $150 million. This prestigious award recognizes ATCS’ exceptional construction management, engineering, and inspection services for the Prince William Parkway Interchange at Realigned Balls Ford Road project.

The project, managed under an on-call construction management and inspection services contract with Prince William County, VA, highlights ATCS’ commitment to delivering projects on schedule and within budget despite numerous challenges. As a locally administered project, ATCS’ expertise was crucial in assisting the county to ensure the project’s success.

Comprehensive Construction Management and Inspection Services:

ATCS provided thorough construction management, engineering, and inspection services, addressing and overcoming multiple construction challenges. The team ensured timely installations, managed quality issues, and coordinated efficiently with all stakeholders, including the county, contractor, designer, and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).

Effective Communication and Coordination:

The ATCS team excelled in maintaining open lines of communication, which was pivotal in managing inspections, reviews, scheduling, and punch list coordination. This included the quick identification and resolution of quality issues with the RCP storm pipe and precast stormwater structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications.

Customer Service and Stakeholder Engagement:

ATCS demonstrated exceptional customer service by addressing multiple owner requests for enhanced oversight and documentation. The team also engaged with adjacent homeowners, keeping them informed of project activities, which was vital for maintaining community relations.

Quality Control and Project Controls:

The project required rigorous quality control measures, including the review of QC Test Plans, project specifications, and engineering calculations. ATCS’ role extended to ensuring all construction aspects were completed according to approved plans, specifications, and regulations. The team provided critical project controls, including compliance with budget and schedule forecasts, and job costing.

Adaptive Scheduling:

ATCS was responsible for the comprehensive project development, which included schedule development, identifying issues with the contractor’s weekly and monthly schedules, completing a risk assessment, and optimizing resource allocations. This ensured the efficient use of materials and manpower.

The team reconstructed the schedule based on the contractor’s permits, availability of materials, manpower, and resources. ATCS reassigned construction staff as needed to adapt to project fluctuations and coordinated additional engineering support services when necessary.

ATCS conducted a thorough risk assessment and optimized the allocation of resources to ensure project efficiency. The team’s proactive management approach was key to maintaining the project’s momentum and addressing potential issues promptly.
